MCU: 5 Times We Felt Bad For Gamora (& 5 Times We Hated Her)

Out of all the films in the Marvel Cinematic Universe, the Guardians of The Galaxy franchise is one of the most underrated. It has action, compelling storylines, and a strong cast ensemble. More importantly, it has quite a few dynamic characters. But which one has had the best arc?

While one or two would say Rocket or Nebula's, the majority of fans believe Gamora's arc had the best development. Fans got to see her backstory, watched her become more than a ruthless assassin, and reconnect with her sister. However, that's not to say she isn't flawed. Take a look and see for yourselves...

10 Hated: First Impressions

Like Rocket, Gamora didn't exactly give off the best first impression as the writers aligned her with Thanos and Ronan. When she was first introduced, Gamora had been sent by Thanos to join Ronan to help him retrieve the Orb. This orb was of vital importance to their plans as it contained one of the Infinity Stones.

At this point, it appeared that Gamora was just a common soldier, willing to obey orders and doing what was necessary to accomplish them. Her reputation as the "deadliest woman in the galaxy" also didn't give off the best impression.

9 Felt Bad: Her Origin Story

Of all the MCU origin stories, fans will agree that Gamora's is one of the most tragic. Gamora is the perfect example of why one should never judge a book by its cover. She may have been a cold and ruthless assassin but that is because Thanos made her so.

He invaded her planet, killed half of the population (including her parents), and kidnapped her. Essentially, Thanos stole Gamora's childhood by raising her to be a weapon in the upcoming war.

8 Hated: Attacking Star-Lord & Groot

Nevertheless, Gamora still cemented herself as the villain when she attacked Quill, Rocket, and Groot on Xandar. After locating Peter, Gamora attacked him and fled with the Orb. However, things didn't go to plan when Groot and Rocket attempted to apprehend her. As a result, Gamora cut Groot's arms off and stabbed him.

Later, she redeemed herself a bit when she revealed to the other Guardians she had no intention of giving the Orb to Ronan. Still, no one forgives her for attacking a harmless Groot.

7 Felt Bad: Gamora Begs Nebula To Help Her

After discovering what power the Orb could contain, Gamora had a change of heart and decided she wanted to give it to the Nova Corps. However, before she and the Guardians could formulate a plan, Ronan and his forces arrived. As a result, Gamora, Quill, and Rocket fled to the Mining Pods to try and escape.

Unfortunately, Nebula spotted them and chased Gamora through Knowhere. Since she couldn't shake her, Gamora flew into deep space and pleaded with her sister to reconsider her allegiance. But Nebula didn't care and she destroyed her pod. Considering how close they had been, Nebula's determination to kill Gamora must have hurt.

6 Hated: Attacking Mantis

Although Gamora encouraged Quill to get to know his father, this didn't mean that she wasn't suspicious of him or Mantis. Despite telling Quill that Mantis was fearful of something, Gamora didn't exactly treat the empath with compassion. First, she threatened to break her jaw if she tried to touch her.

Then, when she realized Ego's true motives, Gamora took her anger out on Mantis. Considering their childhoods were similar (if one considers their abusive "fathers"), Gamora could have been more considerate.

5 Felt Bad: Learning The Extent Of Nebula's Trauma

Gamora and Nebula may not have had the easiest of relationships, but Gamora was willing to try again once she realized Nebula's deep trauma. In the sequel, Gamora and Nebula once again went head-to-head after the assassin tracked her to Ego (the planet). However, it turned out that Nebula didn't want to kill her; she just wanted to win a fight for once.

Despite Gamora's frustrations, she soon softened towards her sister once Nebula revealed how Thanos "upgraded" her every time Gamora beat her. It must have hurt Gamora to hear how she inadvertently caused Nebula's pain.

4 Hated: Ruining The Plan

Come Avengers: Infinity War, Gamora wasn't having the best of times. She discovered Thanos had attained a few of the Infinity Stones and was on his way to accomplishing his life-long plan. As a result, Gamora traveled to Knowhere with half of the Guardians to try and retrieve the Reality Stone.

Once they arrive, they spot Thanos in the museum and decide to come up with a plan. However, Gamora ends up disobeying orders and attacks Thanos. Fans couldn't help but get annoyed at Gamora as her reckless actions result in her getting kidnapped.

3 Felt Bad: Her Final Goodbye To Quill

Since the beginning, Quill and Gamora have had a tumultuous relationship. While they initially didn't get along, the five years together saw them form a relationship of mutual understanding and respect. They even appeared to be in a happy relationship come Infinity War. However, the threat of Thanos almost ruined it.

Before their confrontation on Knowhere, Gamora made Quill promise that he would kill her if Thanos captured her. Since Gamora got captured after the plan backfired, she begged Quill to kill her. What made the moment even more emotional was the fact that Gamora had finally confessed her love for him.

2 Hated: Revealing Where The Soul Stone Was

While Quill gets most of the blame for the Snap, many fans have suggested that Gamora also played a part in it, too. After Thanos transported them off Knowhere, he landed in the throne room where he demanded Gamora tell him the location of the Soul Stone. When she denied all knowledge, Thanos revealed he had captured Nebula and began torturing her.

Eventually, Gamora told him the stone was on Vormir and even lead him there. While it's understandable why she gave in, some fans believe her actions contributed to the Snap, which means she had failed her duty as a Guardian.

1 Felt Bad: Killed By Thanos

Every fan will agree it was absolutely heartbreaking to watch Gamora fall to her death in Infinity War. Unbeknownst to her, to attain the Soul Stone, one had to sacrifice the one thing you love most. Since she believed Thanos to be incapable of love, she taunted him about his failure. But she realized what he planned to do once she saw his face.

Although she tried to avert his plan by committing suicide, Thanos stopped her by disintegrating the dagger. The viewers could only watch on helplessly as Gamora plummeted to her death. What made the scene even more emotional is the fact that you can see her shouting "Dad" as she falls.
