Villanelle is one of TV’s most intriguing assassins. Played by the talented Jodie Comer, Villanelle has completely blown audiences' expectations of what female assassins should be like. Throughout the course of the show, this psychotic killer has shown tremendous skill in her work which has made her both dangerous and unpredictable.
Having recently wrapped up its third season, Killing Eve still has a lot to offer with the character of Villanelle for its future seasons. Given that Villanelle’s journey in S3 focused on her finding herself and solidifying her relationships, it would be fair to consider lists of both romantic and non-romantic characters Villanelle should end up with and those she definitely should not.
10 Should End Up With: Helene
Helene was just recently introduced to the show, she is a higher ranked assassin handler from the 12 who comes in direct contact with Villanelle in S3. From her first meeting with Villanelle, she mentioned how much of a big fan she was, praising Villanelle’s work. But it was in S3 EP 7 “Beautiful Monster” that Helene really consolidated her “love” for Villanelle by giving her a warm and motherly embrace. Even though Villanelle at first was surprised, it was the sort of comfort she needed at the time. Though we have much more to learn about Helene and her true intentions with Villanelle, the two should end up together due to Helene’s motherly presence in Villanelle’s life.
9 Should Not End Up With: Eve
Eve and Villanelle's relationship has also been complicated. The two have had many ups and downs and perhaps the best thing for Villanelle is to forget Eve. S3 also showed us that Eve was still reeling over her old life with Niko, and if she wanted to get that back, Villanelle would have to leave the picture. Eve has also been one of the main reasons why Villanelle can’t seem to focus on her work. Depending on where the writers would want to take Villanelle and her involvement with the 12 in S4, she would need Eve out of the picture for her to continue working.
8 Should End Up With: A New Handler
After the S3 finale, there seemed to be no definite answer on whether or not Villanelle was still working for the 12. Should she still be employed by the group and given that she’s been close to her past handlers, it is likely that a possible relationship could emerge with a new handler in S4. This would not only give Villanelle another chance at building a close relationship with an individual but also would be beneficial as a handler would understand the ins and outs of her job.
7 Should Not End Up With: Konstantin
In the beginning, it seemed like Konstantin and Villanelle had the perfect assassin-handler relationship. However, developments in S3 showed that Konstantin only cares about himself and will do anything in his power to get what he wants. Often, this is to Villanelle’s expense which leads her to follow the same patterns that encourage her psychotic behavior and ultimately brings her down.
Despite having been a person of comfort for Villanelle, Konstantin is not someone who she should continue to trust and ultimately end up with.
6 Should End Up With: Carolyn
Carolyn has had a major influence on all the characters' lives. Not only is she an overarching powerful figure, but she is also revered and feared by those around her including Villanelle. Ever since S1, audiences were left wondering at the relationship that exists between the two.
In the S3 EP 7 “Beautiful Monster”, it was revealed that she had once asked Villanelle to work for MI6. In the S3 finale, Villanelle actually comes back to accept said job offer but Carolyn declines this time. It looks like Villanelle and Carolyn also can’t stay out of each other's life and given that they both share a strong sense of leadership and dedication to their work, the two should end up together.
5 Should Not End Up With: Irina
Villanelle and Irina have had a funny relationship since they first met. When Villanelle first kidnapped her in the S1 Episode 8 “God I’m Tired,” Irina did not seem so bothered, which at the time was a nod to her intelligent and nonchalant attitude. However, Villanelle quickly drags her into some criminal activity which she quickly becomes quite used to. This happens again in the S3 Episode 6 “End of Game” when Villanelle convinces her to skip school and go on an illegal car ride with her. It seems as though Irina’s exposure to Villanelle and the lack of attention she receives from her father has also led her to act out in psychotic ways. Since she is still young, there is still hope for her to lead a normal life, however, should she end up with Villanelle this is unlikely to happen.
4 Should End Up With: Her Brothers Back In “Mother Russia”
Alongside the many storylines provided in S3Ep5 “Are you from Pinner?” was both the most important and intriguing. In this episode, Villanelle reconnects with both her mother, brother and half brothers in “Mother Russia” to learn more about where she comes from. Here, audiences discover a different side of Villanelle and see what her life could have been like had she not been given up to an orphanage and recruited by the 12. Even though things did not end peacefully, she still showed love and affection towards her brothers (whom she also kept alive). Therefore, there is a possibility she will go back to Russian and spend her life with them.
3 Should Not End Up With: Niko
Niko or Mustache, as Villanelle likes to refer to him, is Eve’s husband. As well as being obsessed with Eve, Villanelle has also harbored a fondness for Niko which has not only caused him great mental but also physical harm.
Even though the two would have their love for Eve as a common denominator, the two should definitely not end up together as this would lead to further trauma for Niko and also surely further ruin his own relationship with Eve.
2 Should End Up With: Eve
For the past 3 seasons, tensions have been brewing between Eve and Villanelle. We know that they are both deeply invested in one another and can’t seem to move on. Even though they start each season with a mission to live their lives separately, it never seems to work and given that they literally could not turn their backs on each other in the S3 finale, the two should end up together.
Eve not only drives Villanelle to question her own psychopathy but also compliments her dare-devil nature. Villanelle has simultaneously allowed Eve to come out of her shell and shine as an agent and an individual. They both compliment each other so well and as a result, should definitely end up together.
1 Should Not End Up With: Herself
When we first met her in S1, it was easy to consider Villanelle as a character who should live alone and without love. However, the changes she has experienced in the past 3 seasons have shown that just like anyone, Villanelle is after connection and love. Hence in a redemptive storyline, this character should definitely not end up alone. Villanelle has shown tremendous progress by showing empathy in some cases. With positive and loving role models, be it Eve or another individual, Villanelle could learn to live as a member of society or end up by herself.
