Every Song On The Howard The Duck Soundtrack | Screen Rant

Here's every song featured on the soundtrack of beloved 1980s classic Howard The Duck. The 80s is a decade that produced a few infamous duds, including Jaws: The Revenge, Maximum Overdrive - which is the sole movie directed by Stephen King - and Rhinestone. Howard The Duck is usually prominently featured on any list compiling the worst of the decade too. The film baffled audiences and critics back in 1986, but it has the honor of being the very first theatrical movie based on a Marvel character, beating the likes of 1989's The Punisher with Dolph Lundgren.

The Howard The Duck comic arrived in 1973 and follows the adventures of the titular character, a talking humanoid duck with a bad attitude. The comic is a satire of the medium with Howard himself being something of a jerk, though the film toned him down to make him a more appealing lead. While the initial plan was to make Howard The Duck an animated feature, it was eventually decided to make it live-action instead with actors such as Tim Robbins and Lea Thompson (Back To The Future) cast in lead roles. The movie was showered with poor reviews during release, focusing on its weird tone and a "sexy" scene between Thompson's character and Howard; the stiff animatronics used to bring the title character to life were also criticized.

Howard The Duck was such a flop for Universal that an urban legend exists claiming studio heads Sid Sheinberg and Frank Price got into a fistfight over who should be blamed for greenlighting it; ironically, Sheinberg would soon greenlight Jaws: The Revenge for the summer of 1987. Here's a guide to all the original songs featured on Howard The Duck's soundtrack.

Hunger City - Cherry Bomb

Don't Turn Away - Cherry Bomb

It Don't Come Cheap - Cherry Bomb

Howard the Duck - Cherry Bomb

I'm On My Way - Tata Vega

Two More Bottles Of Wine - Karen Blake

Most of the songs in Howard The Duck were written by Thomas Dolby and were performed by Cherry Bomb, the movie's fictional girl group. Lea Thompson actually performed these songs herself as the band's lead singer, with Holly Robinson (21 Jump Street) Dominique Davalos and Liz Sagal playing the rest of the group. While the movie still isn't held in high regard it has acquired a cult following, with some fans having fun with its utter bizarreness.

On the big screen, Howard The Duck received some redemption with assorted cameos in the MCU. He first appeared during a post-credit scene in James Gunn's Guardians Of The Galaxy voiced by Seth Green before reappearing in Vol. 2 and having a blink or you'll miss cameo in Avengers: Endgame. There don't appear to be any plans for a new solo Howard The Duck movie just yet, but who knows? Stranger things have happened...
