While there are lots of fun things to do in Animal Crossing, such as talking to neighbors, collecting bugs, and designing clothing, players are also able to renovate their homes. Taking on the role of interior designer has become a fan-favorite activity, but it’s impossible to do without one thing: furniture.
While it might look as if there are few ways to score new items for your house, there are actually multiple methods of obtaining new furniture in New Horizons. While you can always order items you’ve already collected from the catalog, we’re here to show you ten ways you can get your hands on furniture you don’t already own.
10 Buy From The Nookling
One of the easiest ways to get furniture in New Horizons is by purchasing it from Nook’s Cranny with bells. The store is open from 8 a.m. to 10 p.m. each day and has a rotating selection of items.
While there is only a small selection of furniture in the store at first, players can eventually upgrade Nook’s Cranny to offer five furniture items each day. Once unlocked, a third small improvement will allow Timmy and Tommy to sell a sixth item.
You can also order furniture from the Nook Stop at Resident Services with bells and Nook Miles.
9 Craft It
The newest way to obtain furniture in the Animal Crossing series is by crafting it. To create your furniture, you must collect DIY recipes and crafting material. Once you get the necessary supplies, you can create the piece of your dreams by visiting a DIY Workbench.
DIY recipes can be obtained in many ways. You can find the recipes in balloons, receive them from villagers, and pull them out of bottles washed up on the beach. You can also purchase them from Nook’s Cranny and at the Nook Stop.
8 Shake A Tree
While branches, wasp nests, and money can fall out of the trees that you shake, new furniture items can also come down.
Players can find up to two pieces of furniture hidden somewhere among their town trees each day. While you won’t ever find furniture hidden in fruit trees, all the regular trees and cedars are fair game. The select pieces that fall from the trees are random.
7 Shoot Down A Balloon
Pull out your slingshot, and shoot toward the sky!
Throughout the day, balloons spawn at the edge of your town during times ending in 0 and 5. While you can find a lot of things inside of these balloons including crafting material and bells, you can also discover furniture.
If you shoot down a solid-colored balloon, you'll have the opportunity to find normal furniture. If you take down a specially patterned balloon, you'll probably come across items tied to a special event or holiday.
6 Check Out The Recycling Box
Located inside Resident Services, the recycling box contains a bunch of random items that your island’s residents no longer have use for.
Almost any type of item can be found here, from shells to crafting material to trash. Of course, sometimes you'll get lucky and find furniture as well.
5 Talk To Villagers
Making friends has its benefits.
While there are many reasons to talk to your villagers in New Horizons, one specific upside to friendship is that it will help you acquire furniture more quickly. Sometimes villagers will request certain things of you in exchange for a piece of furniture. Other times, a villager will gift you a random item if you give them something from your pockets.
Chat with the island residents every day because they'll frequently surprise you with new stuff.
4 Help Gulliver
The sea-sailing seagull known as Gulliver is known to wash up on the shore pretty often.
After you wake him up, he’ll discover that he's missing his Communicator Parts. They’re buried along the beach under little sprays of water like those created by manila clams. If you dig up all five with a shovel and bring them back to him, he’ll send you a gift in the mail the next day.
While sometimes Gulliver will give you a clothing item, other times he'll send a rare piece of furniture inspired by icons from around the world.
3 Check The Mail
Gulliver isn’t the only one who can send you cool stuff in the mail. Sometimes villagers, special characters, or organizations (like the Happy Home Academy) will send you items for doing something. Other times, it's just because.
Don’t forget to open all those sappy letters from your Mom. She likes to gift you on special days throughout the year.
2 Find Wisp's Spirits
If you’re lucky, you might run into Wisp during the evening. After talking to the friendly ghost, he’ll ask you to collect the five pieces of his spirit for him. The spirits are scattered across the island, and you can catch them with a net.
As a thank you, Wisp will offer you the choice of “Something Expensive” or “Something New.” While you can score items like clothing and wallpaper from Wisp, he also likes to thank players with furniture.
1 Attend Special Events
One of the biggest ways to receive rare furniture is by attending special events.
Flik and C.J. host Fishing Tournaments and Bug Offs where players can score unique items. Seasonal and holiday events like Earth Day and the Harvest Festival also give players opportunities to acquire special items.
While not all of New Horizons' events have been announced, there’s no doubt that they’ll provide players with lots of chances to fill their homes with fun.
