Titans Season 3: What Starfire's Visions Mean | Screen Rant

Warning: The following contains SPOILERS for the first three episodes of Titans season 3.

What is the meaning of the visions that Starfire has begun experiencing in Titans season 3? While the first three episodes of season 3 were largely focused upon events in Gotham City and Nightwing's investigation into the death of Jason Todd, Kory's waking dreams are shaping up to be an equally important part of the storyline. However, the exact meaning of the visions remains unclear, though they are likely tied to Starfire's evil sister Blackfire.

Starfire's first vision came near the end of Titans season 3's premiere episode, "Barbara Gordon," as she was raising a drink to Jason Todd's memory. Suddenly she dropped her glass and her eyes began to glow green. A series of images seemed to flash through Starfire's mind, showing two men wearing goggles from the perspective of a restrained figure who was lying down and being pushed down a hallway. When the vision ended, Starfire was standing in the middle of a crosswalk, with no memory of how she got out onto the streets of San Francisco.

Starfire experienced a second vision in Titans season 3, episode 2, "Red Hood," as she was exploring Wayne Manor and Nightwing's old bedroom. This time, a blue energy seemed to envelop Starfire as she had the vision, which showed her the same disturbing men wearing goggles but also revealed the restrained figure was handcuffed to a hospital gurney and trying to break free. Later, Gar Logan, aka Beast Boy, and Conner, aka Superboy, found Starfire walking Wayne Manor in a daze, speaking her native language. She tried to throw fire at them when they addressed her, but she quickly awoke from her trance with no memory of what had happened.

While Dr. Justin Cole, a psychiatrist whom Starfire had befriended, believed that she was experiencing a violent parasomnia episode brought about by some kind of subconscious trauma, it seems more likely that Starfire's visions are the work of her wicked sister Komand'r, a.k.a. Blackfire. The current queen of Tamaran first appeared in Titans season 2, telling Starfire that she had killed their parents and claimed their throne for herself. While Starfire swore that she would avenge her parents, despite not wanting the throne for herself, Blackfire apparently elected not to wait for Starfire to return to Tamaran and the final scene of Titans' season 2 finale showed her using Tamaranean technology to take over the body of an innocent Earth woman.

While it is known that Blackfire will be a major part of season 3's storyline, there is little in the first three episodes of Titans to indicate just how she will be brought into the narrative. Having her manipulate Starfire with some manner of disorienting psychic attack would be well within her capabilities, given that she took control of Starfire's former lover to try to get to her while her guard was down during Titans season 2. It's also possible that Blackfire has come to some kind of harm since arriving on Earth and is trying to reach out to her sister for help, though it seems much more likely she'd try to take over her sister's body and convince her allies she's going crazy than accept help from Kory.
