Margot Robbie Jokes Her Career Has Peaked & It's All Downhill From Here

Margot Robbie recently shared that she worries she may have peaked in her career. The Oscar-nominated actress, who has starred in several award-winning films and worked with some of Hollywood’s top stars, just reprised her role as Harley Quinn in James Gunn's The Suicide Squad. The expansive cast is just a taste of who Robbie has worked with before, though, including Brad Pitt, Leonardo DiCaprio, Will Smith, Nicole Kidman, Christian Bale, Steve Carell, and many more.

Robbie began her acting career performing in a few independent films and television shows, but she gained wider recognition after starring in the 2013 dark comedy, The Wolf of Wall Street, alongside DiCaprio. In 2016, she portrayed Jane opposite Alexander Skarsgard in The Legend of Tarzan. That same year, she brought Harley Quinn to life in the DCEU, playing Joker's girlfriend in the maligned Suicide Squad film. Robbie reprised her role in Birds of Prey (2020). She has also received several award nominations for her roles as disgraced figure skater Tonya Harding in I, Tonya, Queen Elizabeth I in Mary Queen of Scots, Sharon Tate in Once Upon a Time in Hollywood, and a Fox News employee in Bombshell. Though Suicide Squad and Birds of Prey were not as well received as expected, Robbie’s Harley Quinn has taken the fandom by storm.

Now, in a recent interview with Fox News, Robbie confessed that, despite her huge success, she is worried that she may have reached her peak and that her career has nowhere else to go but down. She added that she hopes her fears are unfounded, claiming that she still feels like she has more to offer the industry and more people she’d like to work with before her career ends. She ends her statement with a determination to keep trying. Check it out below:

Honestly, this keeps me up at night, this very question. I feel like I have peaked and maybe it’s all downhill from here. Maybe I’m at the top and it can’t get any better. I hope that’s not the case because I still feel like I have a lot to give and there’s still a lot of directors I want to work with. And, you know, I’m just going to keep climbing as long as I can.

Despite the fact that the thirty-one-year-old actress is a nominee of two Academy Awards, five British Academy Film Awards, four Golden Globes, and five Screen Actors Guild Awards, alongside winning two AACTA Awards, she is still somewhat concerned that her professional career is reaching its climax, even if she seems to be joking to some degree. Perhaps her worries have been amplified by the less than impressive box office take and critical reception of her DC movies. However, she is determined to keep climbing the industry ladder. It’s clear from both her concern and her resolve that Robbie thoroughly enjoys her work, and isn’t ready to give it up yet.

Fears aside, though, it seems like Robbie has nothing to worry about. The actress has embodied Harley Quinn in a way that has never been done before and bringing an iconic character to life in a way that has actually pleased fans. In her interview, Robbie expresses how appreciative she is over the fact that Harley Quinn has evolved from being the Joker’s girlfriend and puts this evolution down to the popularity of the character. Of course, embodying such a loved character comes with its own set of challenges, which appear to have brewed self-doubt in Robbie. Despite Robbie’s fears, though, it doesn’t look like she’s heading downhill any time soon – some of her upcoming projects include the live-action Barbie remake, and Damien Chazelle’s 1920s Babylon movie, the follow-up to his Oscar winning La La Land.
