Impeachment Trailer Shows Full Look At Monica Lewinsky In American Crime Story

Monica Lewinsky and Linda Tripp meet in the first full trailer for Impeachment: American Crime StoryImpeachment is the third entry in Ryan Murphy's FX anthology series after the first two seasons documented the OJ Simpson trial and the murder of Gianni Versace. This time around, Murphy is diving into one of the biggest political scandals of the 20th century, following Monica Lewinsky's affair with President Bill Clinton and the aftermath of its exposure. Beanie Feldstein will star as Lewinsky while Murphy mainstay Sarah Paulson will play Linda Tripp, the woman who recorded Lewinsky's confession about the affair.

Clive Owen will star as the President alongside Edie Falco in the role of Hillary Clinton. Colbie Smulders was recently cast as pundit Ann Coulter. Margo Martindale, Billy Eichner, Judith Light, Anthony Green, Elizabeth Reaser, and Annaleigh Ashford round out the cast. Initially, Impeachment was slated to be the fourth season of American Crime Story, releasing after an entry that would document the events of Hurricane Katrina. When that idea was scrapped, Impeachment was bumped up, but it has been stuck in development since 2017. Now, the season is finally set to premiere this September.

As Impeachment's release date grows closer, FX has released a new trailer for the upcoming series. The clip provides the first full look at Feldstein in costume as Lewinsky. It also reveals Paulson as Tripp. Feldstein can be seen walking down a hall, presumably in the White House, lit in red, white, and blue. Audio of Lewinsky's conversation with Tripp plays as Feldstein's character walks towards Paulson's. The clip ends with the two confronting each other as Lewinsky says, "My life is over." The entire scandal saw much of the political world and the media turn their backs on Lewinsky, but in recent years that reaction has been reevaluated. Murphy did something similar with The People v O.J. Simpson, turning the tide of public opinion in favor of maligned prosecutor Marcia Clark, who was also played by Paulson. In an effort to ensure her story was told properly, Murphy had Lewinsky consult on every Impeachment script and has said that the series will be Monica's story, shifting the general narrative away from the Clinton's.

Impeachment may be one of the most anticipated shows of the fall thanks to its slate of stars and the controversial but vital story at its center. In recent years, Lewinsky has even become more vocal on social media and in the press, talking about the damage that the scandal had on both her public and private life. Impeachment will shed further light on that, making the upcoming series all the more anticipated.
