Galactus' Mother is Just As Powerful as Her Son, Marvel Confirms

Warning! Spoilers for Defenders #1 by Marvel Comics

The Defenders have reassembled in the pages of Marvel Comics and their first mission features the group tangoing with the mother of Galactus, Taaia. In an unlikely meeting, the Defenders were magically teleported to the Devourer of World's home-planet, where they came face-to-face with the woman who created Galactus. However, on Taa, the team finds a much bigger threat at hands, another planet-eater, Omnimax.

Before becoming a giant, planet-eating cosmic being who fed to keep balance in the universe, Galactus was Galan of Taa. But, his beautiful world was destroyed when the Multiverse reset itself after being absorbed by the Black Winter. As everyone he knew and loved died, the living embodiment of the Multiverse bonded with Galan and created Galactus - a being whose sole purpose was to feed on entire planets to ensure balance throughout the Cosmos. Galactus has been long seen as a supervillain in the Marvel Universe, but rarely has his missions been personal. Little has been revealed about Galactus' family, until now.

In Defenders #1 by Al Ewing, Javier Rodriguez, and Alvaro Lopez, the Masked Raider meets with Doctor Strange and reveals he's been hunting Carlo Zota, one of Marvel's oldest villains who has used dark magic to travel across space and time. He fears Zota will use the magic like Sise-Neg before him, who traveled back in time to become the creator of the universe. In order to defend the cosmic threat, Strange summons a team which includes Silver Surfer, Red Harpy, and Cloud. Accessing the magic needed to bring the heroes together teleports the team to Taa, as the Defenders go back in time to Galactus' home planet.

The Defenders quickly realize where they are, as they are in the Sixth Infinity before Galactus came to be. However, before they can fully introduce themselves to Taaia, she points to the sky and reveals an even bigger problem for the team, as a massive cosmic being named Omnimax. Referred to as "Big Hungry," Omnimax appears to be feeding on Taa as an older Devourer of Worlds.

Will the Defenders team up with Taaia to defeat Omnimax? Or do they believe that if Omnimax destroys Taa, Galactus will never exist. Considering how dangerous the Multiverse is, it's more likely they see what Taaia has to say and how it can help them catch Zota. Interfering with such an essential cosmic happening surely would change everything. But, before they can deal with the time-traveling villain, the Defenders will need to find a way to stop Omnimax with Galactus' mother by their side.
