Bachelor: Arie Complains About Lauren's Dr. Discriminating Against Men

Arie Luyendyk Jr. from The Bachelor posted a very angry selfie from his car as he sat outside the doctor's office. He had something to say: He felt discriminated against for not being able to go into the doctor's office with his pregnant wife, Lauren. It wasn't just that he felt discriminated against, though – Arie claimed that "men are honestly being discriminated against" in his briefly-worded rant.

Arie Luyendyk Jr. is one of few men who is still engaged to the woman he met on The Bachelor. Lauren Burnham, now Lauren Luyendyk, wasn't his first choice, but his second. Arie controversially dumped his first choice, Becca Kufrin, to pursue a relationship with his runner-up. In 2019, the two got married and had a baby girl named Alessi. Recently, Lauren announced she was pregnant again, this time with twins. Arie and Lauren recently revealed the genders of their twins: a boy and a girl. They've shared much of their fertility journey, including a miscarriage they suffered last year, on YouTube. Arie was in the room when Lauren found out they were having twins. However, he wasn't allowed in for Lauren's recent anatomy scan, which led to his Instagram story, where he complained about being discriminated against.

An anatomy scan is a routine ultrasound that allows the obstetrician to take detailed measurements of the baby (or babies) in the womb. Arie let his followers know he was not allowed in the room for this scan, due to COVID-19 precautions. He then tried to make sense of why some venues, like stadiums, are "full," while doctors won't let partners into the appointment room. His Instagram story read,

"Sitting in the parking lot while @laurenluyendyk is getting the anatomy scan. In my opinion it's BS husbands aren't allowed. Just doesn't make sense. Every doctor has their own set of rules. There is no consistency. Men are honestly being discriminated against. We should have a right to see our own babies. You can pack a stadium full of people. Fill airplanes but I can't watch a monitor from 6 feet away. F--king ridiculous."

Arie is likely frustrated about not being able to see his unborn children, especially after he and Lauren's painful miscarriage last year, which Lauren found out about alone. However, many people on Reddit pointed out that the rules, while disappointing for expectant parents, have nothing to do with gender. For lesbian and gay couples, the rules are the same: only the person who is carrying the child is allowed into the ultrasound room. Many fans had more concerns for the doctor, who would double her risk of exposure to COVID-19 by allowing Arie into the room, than they had sympathy for Arie's claim of discrimination.

As Arie himself pointed out, some doctors are letting the partners of pregnant patients into the exam room. If Arie is concerned about discrimination against men at his current doctor, maybe he and Lauren can find a new one – hopefully, one that has been vaccinated.
