Pikmin 3 Deluxe Free Switch Demo Transfers Progress, Unlocks New Mode

Nintendo is releasing a demo of Pikmin 3 Deluxe today that will allow players to transfer their progress to the full version when it releases on October 30th. The upcoming game is an enhanced port of the Wii U's Pikmin 3 title, which released in 2013. It's the latest in a long line of Wii U ports from Nintendo, in a possible quest to make the console, which many have deemed a failure, obsolete.

The Pikmin franchise is definitely one of Nintendo's least active series. Since the release of the first game in 2001, Pikmin has only had three main series entries and a single handheld spinoff. The series is certainly not without fans, though; players have praised the games for their unique take on strategic gameplay, requiring the player to manage several different types of Pikmin and assigning them to various tasks in order to maximize productivity and progress.

The upcoming redo of Pikmin 3 might help breathe new life into the distinctive franchise. To help it in this goal, Nintendo of America recently announced on Twitter that the game will be receiving a free demo today on the Switch. Fans who missed the original game's tenure on Wii U can download this demo and see how the task of commanding legions of adorable plant creatures suits them. In order to sweeten the deal, Nintendo announced that all progress made in the demo will carry over to the full game when it releases later this month. Furthermore, if fans take part in the demo, they will unlock an Ultra-Spicy difficulty mode, which will likely add a whole new level of challenge to the experience.

This is a pretty generous offer and a good way to get fans excited for the port. The original game received favorable reviews from most critics, but it didn't leave a huge impact on the market. This is likely due to the relative obscurity of the franchise, which a lot of casual Nintendo fans probably only really know thanks to Olimar's appearance in the Super Smash Bros. series, as well as the aforementioned failure of the Wii U. By rereleasing the most recent game on a more popular console, Nintendo has a good chance of broadening the franchise's horizons, and this demo will surely help it along.

If nothing else can be said for the Pikmin games, they certainly stand out. While there are no end of platformers to compete with Nintendo's iconic Mario series, and no shortage of action games to channel the adventure of The Legend of Zelda, there really aren't any other games quite like Pikmin. Whether or not that's for the best is something players can decide for themselves by diving into the demo for Pikmin 3 Deluxe on Nintendo Switch.
